South Kashmir’s Awantipora shuts down on Hizb militant’s anniversary

Pulwama: A shutdown is being observed in Awantipora Township here to commemorate the first anniversary of a Hizbul Mujahideen militant, who was killed in a gunfight with government forces last year.

All shops and business establishments remained closed in the town today in memory of Hizb militant Showkat Ahmad Qasba, who was killed last year on this day in a gunfight with government forces at Batpora Charsoo village here, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Scores of people also visited Showkat’s family in Jowbehara Awantipora and offered prayers for the departed soul, witnesses said.
