Allama Iqbal’s son Justice (retd) Javed passes away in Lahore

Islamabad: Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, son of renowned philosopher and poet Allama Iqbal, passed away in Lahore today.

Javed, 91, who served as the chief justice of Lahore High Court and a Supreme Court judge passed away at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital in Lahore, after a prolonged illness, Radio Pakistan reported.

He was appointed chairman of the judicial commission mandated to trace missing persons.

Iqbal, who retired from the Supreme Court in July 2011, was hearing the missing persons’ case while in service and had succeeded in getting intelligence agencies to answer questions about the people in their custody.

His funeral prayers will be offered at 4 pm today.
