Srinagar: People took to streets against the roads and buildings(R&B) department in central district of Budgam on Thursday for ‘failing’ to resume macadamisation work on Bemina-Mirgund road.
Chanting slogans, hundreds of residents of Sebdan, Dooru, Chowdrybagh, Chakale Khan blocked the main Budgam-Srinagar road at Abu-Turab Chowk to protest against the alleged official apathy towards the area..
They alleged that authorities suspended the macadamisation work on Bemina-Budgam road mid-way without any reason.
“After years of delay, the macadamisation work was started by the R&B department from Garipora Bemina Bridge. However it was stopped all of a sudden at Hyderiya colony,” the protesters said.
They said that when villagers went to inquire about the suspension, R&B assured them to resume the work within a week’s time.
“More than two weeks have passed since then but the work has not resumed,” they said.
The residents said that the road from Hyderiya colony upto Mirgund was in a very dilapidated condition.
The protesters dispersed peacefully after the executive magistrate, Budgam visited the spot and assured them that macadamisation work would be started from coming Monday.
