Pro-freedom camp asks people to celebrate Eid with austerity

Srinagar: The pro-freedom camp on Thursday asked people to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with austerity and in accordance with the principles of Islam.
“We must not forget the orphans, widows and destitute on this auspicious occasion. We’re passing through a very crucial situation due to military occupation of India, so we should not indulge in lavish pending,” Geelani said in a statement.
Expressing concern and anguish over the reports of seizure of many sacrificial animals in Rajouri and arrest of many Muslims by police, Geelani said that BJP is controlling the entire Jammu region and are “intentionally fueling the communal tension in the area”.
“Seizing of sacrificial animals is an intolerable act which can have serious repercussions.”
He said that RSS and its allied parties can’t dictate terms to Muslims regarding sacrifices of animals.
“It is our religious obligation and we can’t tolerate anybody’s interference in such matters.”
Reiterating his appeal of not hurting the religious sentiments of any community, Geelani said the aim of Muslims is to attain benevolence of Almighty Allah.
“People should desist from capturing and sharing the videos of slaughtering of sacrificial animals. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has prohibited the slaughtering of one animal in front of another animal. Muslims should sacrifice cow in every way but should not do this for just display. We should also warn our children from bursting fire crackers on Eid,” Geelani added.
Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also asked people to celebrate Eid with austerity.
“In real terms, the Eid teaches Muslims the significance of sacrifice,to compensate the needs of our needy brethren and to strengthen our belief and our bond with Allah,” Mirwaiz said in a statement.
He said Kashmiris are celebrating Eid at a time when state high court has announced ban on eating beef. “Muslims would never allow any individual, organization or institution to interfere in the Sharia laws,” he said and appealed people to celebrate the Eid with austerity and ensure that all the needy people get required contributions and charity.
Mirwaiz while paying tributes to the resolve of Kashmiri political prisoners imprisoned in Kashmir and outside valley jails prayed for their good health. “We should remember the sacrifices rendered by our people so as to realize their dream of freedom.”
Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik has asked people to observe the EID with austerity.
“Eid-ul-Azha teaches us the lesson of sacrifice and steadfastness and we should follow the path shown by Hazrat Ibrahim (A S) while observing this day,” Malik said in a statement.
