Kangan: The residents and traders of Kangan town have demanded macadamisation of the whole stretch of land acquired for road in main market on Srinagar-Leh highway.
They said that the border roads organisation, the caretaking agency of the highway, is going to macadamise only 30 ft of the total 65 ft wide highway at Kangan market.
“We will resist this at any cost. We want the whole stretch should be macadamised. The dust emanating from the road is a nuisance for all, besides the un-macadamised portion gives a chance to encroachers to occupy the land,” said a shopkeeper of the area. The traders threatened protests if authorities failed to macadamise the whole road breadth in the market.
Meanwhile, residents also complained that the street lights in the market place have turned defunct and PDD has failed to repair them for past several months.
