UJC condemns assault on prisoners by ‘Ikhwanis’ in B’la jail

SRINAGAR: The United Jihad Council (UJC) Tuesday condemned the alleged attack by “criminals and Ikhwanis” on political prisoners in north Kashmir’s Barmulla jail.
“The Ikhwanis including Qayoom Tantray, Bashir Bhat, Nazir Lone, Hameed and others attacked the pro-freedom prisoners inside the Baramulla jail. The act is condemnable,” UJC secretary general Sheikh Jameel ur Rehman said in a statement.
“It was a murderous assault and an act of vengeance committed at the behest of armed forces,” he alleged.
He appealed the world human rights bodies including the International Red Cross to use their influence to stop the “unabated human rights violations” happening in Kashmir.
He said the prisoners inside the jail are suffering from different ailments. “They (prisoners) are not even given medical facilities and are kept in barracks with criminals. This is nothing but a sheer political vengeance.”
The UJC secretary general said it is extremely condemnable that Kashmiri youths are being “implicated in false cases”.
He warned government of dire consequences if it fails to stop the “attacks on political prisoners”.
