SRINAGAR: Kashmir Traders Federation on Friday accused the officials of “harassing” the traders at Lakhanpur check post.
In a statement issued here, the Chief Spokesperson of the Federation, Ajaz Shahdhar, said the “autocratic officials” stop the goods-laden vehicles in the name of physical verification and keep them stationed for many days.
“These officials have no sympathy with the traders of the Valley, who recently suffered a lot of damages and lost their businesses and stocks,” he said.
The traders’ body said the state’s Commercial Taxes department has yearly targets of collecting taxes at the post.
“In order to achieve it, they impose extra penalties and fines on the traders,” he said.
The Federation also condemned the raids on the shops and establishments of the traders of the Valley by officials of the department.
“If this behavior towards the traders is not changed, we will take extreme action,” he said.
