Sopore scribe says threatened for covering stone pelting incidents

SOPORE: A journalist from north Kashmir’s Sopore on Wednesday accused special operations group (SOG) of police of threatening him for covering stone pelting incidents in the town.
Adnan Fayaz, a scribe and photo journalist working with a local news agency and a newspaper, said that he was on way to talk to Batpora family on Tuesday whose son was killed in Pattan.
“Some SOG personnel were arresting local youths. When they saw me with camera, they rushed towards me and abused me and threatened me not to cover any incident next time in Sopore,” Adnan said.
He said that on Tuesday morning, he got calls from some unknown persons again threatening him not to cover any stone pelting incident in the area.
“People always blame us (journalists) for not highlighting their daily life problems in newspapers. And when we visit any place, some locals always stop us and many times threaten us, which is a matter of concern,” Adnan said.
