Baramulla: Authorities have closed Srinagar- Muzaffarabad highway for traffic after a portion of the road caved in on Tuesday night.
The 100-meter stretch of the strategic highway sank around 9:00 pm on Tuesday near Khanpora, an official told Kashmir Reader today. He said that a van that was plying on the highway was also swept away. However, the driver had a miraculous escape.
The official said that a portion of Ancient Shilpathri temple was also damaged due to land sinking.
Meanwhile, the police have blocked the two ends of the highway with razor wire to prevent people from venturing closer. Hundreds of villages have become inaccessible due to the closure of the vital road link.
