Srinagar: The state government on Tuesday transferred and posted Khurshid Ahmed Ganai (IAS officer of 1982 batch), Financial Commissioner, Industries & Commerce Department as Chairman, Bureau of Public Enterprises.
“It is further ordered that the post of the Chairman, Bureau of Public Enterprises is declared equivalent in status to the IAS Cadre post of Chief Secretary, in terms of Rule 9(1) of the IAS (Pay) Rules, 1954, for the period it is held by Ganai, IAS,” a government order said here.
Miffed over government’s decision to appoint his junior, B R Sharma as chief secretary, Ganai, had gone on a “ protest leave’’ till October 31, the date when he attains superannuation.
BR Sharma had superseded senior officers –Arun Kumar, his wife Sonali Kumar (both 1979 batch IAS officers), A K Angurana (1980 batch) and Ganai to replace Iqbal Khandey who decided voluntary retirement in protest against government’s decision to hold cabinet meeting in absence last month.
Whether or not, Ganie accepted new assignment and end protest leave could not be ascertained immediately.
