Leopard mauls girl, bear injures two persons in Kupwara

Baramulla: An 18-year-old girl was mauled by a leopard in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday evening when she was returning home from nearby forests.
Zareena daughter of Gulam Mohammad Khatana of Batnar Khurhama was attacked by a  leopard when she, along with the cattle was returning from the nearby forests.
The girl succumbed to her injuries on the spot and could not even be shifted to hospital for treatment.
Locals swild animals have wrecked havoc in the area and have been roaming around the village since past so many day.
In a separate incident , two persons namely Abdul Rashid Bhat and Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat of Shahnagri village of Mawar Langate were attacked by a black bear outside the village.Duo were taken to government hospital Langate, where doctors shifted Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat to Srinagar hospital for further treatment as his condition is said to be critical.
North Kashmir’s Wildlife warden, Mohammad Maqbool Baba  when contacted told Kashmir Reader that the  incidents took place in  the areas which are usually surrounded  with thick  forests. He further  said that two teams of wildlife officials have been sent to the areas where wild animals have unleashed terror so that they could either be caught or killed.
