SRINAGAR: A local court here has issued a notice to Imran Raza Ansari, Youth Services and Sports minister, and other members of the JKCA led by him to a fresh petition filed by Farooq Abdullah’s group.
The notice, issued by the court of Second Additional District Judge Sham Lal, seeks reply from Ansari and the other members including Mehboob Iqbal, Iqbal Shah and Abdul Rouf by or before September 18.
Farooq along with General Secretary M L Nehru seeks court’s directions to declare as “null and void” the account opened in JK Bank in the name of JKCA at the “instance and connivance with Sports Minister and his associates.”
The petitioners also seek direction to declare Ansari and his associates have “no authority” to maintain, run and operate any bank account of JKCA including those at branch office Air Cargo Srinagar and BC Road Jammu.
“(Ansari and his Associates) be directed to restrain themselves from dealing with any way or operating the bank accounts of the (Farooq-led) association.”
They also seek directions to J&K bank authorities to allow JKCA-led by Abdullah to maintain and run these accounts without any interference or impediment.
The petitioners allege that the bank authorities have allowed the operation of the bank accounts by some “unauthorized persons” pursuant to the “so-called meeting and so-called” election of the JKCA on July.
High drama unfolded in the JKCA on July 20 with the rebel group elected Ansari as the president of JKCA in an attempt to end Farooq’s 35-year reign. However, the poll results were stayed by a Jammu court. Subsequently, the Farooq group filed a suit before the 1st Additional District & Sessions Judge Srinagar, challenging the election conducted by the JKCA.
The petitioners also contended that despite “assurances” that the matter will be looked into and appropriate measures will be taken, there was no response from the JK Bank.
“This is the reason for filing the instant case against the bank authorities and Ansari Association,” advocate Sajad Ahmad Sofi, representing them said.
