Top Lashkar commander killed in Kakpora gunfight

Pulwama : A top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander has been killed in a gun-battle with government forces in Kakpora area of this south Kashmir district.

Irshad Ahmad Ganai, Lashkar’s commander for south Kashmir was killed when he opened fire and tried to break cordon laid by Special Operations Group (SOG) of police in Naman Begambagh village of Kakpora this evening, officials told Kashmir Reader. A resident of Padgampora in Awantipora, Irshad was a wanted militant and had escaped forces dragnet several times.

Earlier when the cordon was laid, Irshad had managed to flee through the paddy fields. However, the forces had tightened the cordon and blocked all possible escape routes.
