Srinagar: Most of the resistance leaders, including chairmen of Hurriyat Conference factions and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief have been placed under house arrest by the authorities to prevent them from leading anti-India demonstrations.
While Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani, who has called for a shutdown today against the order banning beef sale across Kashmir, has been continuously under house arrest since April 17, the chairman of parallel faction Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik remained under house arrest for the third consecutive day at their respective houses in Nigeen and Maisuma, the spokespersons of the pro-freedom groups said.
Geelani’s close aides Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Aga Syed Hassan, Raja Mehraj-ud-din and spokesman Ayaz Akber are also under house detention. Another senior leader of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Mohammad Ashraf Laya was last night placed under house detention by police.
Laya was earlier detained by Police after he led a march from Masjid Hamza Lal Chowk against beef ban on Friday.
