SRINAGAR: Leh-based All Changthang Pashmina Growers Cooperative and Marketing Society (APGCMS) on Friday refused to supply raw pashmina to Kashmir at lower rates.
A release issued here said a meeting was held in the office chambers of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) regarding procurement of raw pashmina from APGCMS.
The meeting was presided over by President KCCI Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad.
The meeting was attended by Chairman APGCMS, Managing Director SICOP, and Secretary/Executive Members of APGCMS.
The meeting expressed concern over the artisans’ reluctance in buying the raw pashmina procured by SICOP from APGCMS. The KCCI President attributed it to sluggish market, opining that the demand for the procured raw material may rise in near future.
Chairman/Executive Member of APGCMS were, however, adamant for a final commitment regarding purchase of raw Pashmina.
They demanded that the MoU, which was signed between SICOP and APGCMS, may either to terminated or advancement payments be made.
While they agreed to supply the raw Pashmina at Rs 2,750/kg, the meeting observed that the rates were on the higher side.
The meeting finally decided to bring the matter into the notice of Minister for Industries and Commerce and Chief Minister in order to find a workable solution.
