SRINAGAR: Deputy Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, on Friday asked the Indian Oil Corporation to facilitate setting up of a petrol pump at Dawar, Gurez.
He said a petrol pump at the location should help ease the difficulty being faced by the commuters due to unavailability of fuel in Gurez. The deputy speaker was speaking in a meeting convened to discuss availability of petrol and diesel in Gurez—a remote tehsil falling in Bandipora district of north Kashmir.
Officers of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department, Revenue Department, and Indian Oil Corporation Limited participated in the meeting.
“A petrol pump in the tehsil will also help an increasing number of tourists visiting Gurez Valley. Stocking petrol and diesel is also a must, as the tehsil remains cut off from the Kashmir Valley during winters,” he said.
The meeting was informed that 80 per cent of the required quantity of rice has been stocked for the consumers in Gurez.
The deputy speaker instructed the concerned CAPD officers to ensure distribution of rations among the destitute under Anpurna Scheme and also to identify other deserving consumers.
