Protesters block Sopore-Bandipora highway over water shortage

Baramulla: Hundreds of people Thursday blocked Sopore-Bandipora highway and staged protests against the non-availability of clean drinking water.
The residents of Hathlango, Warpora and other areas of Zainageer assembled took to streets and staged anti-government protests over the scarcity of clean drinking water, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. Chanting anti-government slogans, the protesters blocked Sopore-Bandipora highway leaving scores of vehicles stranded.
“For over a week, we are facing serious problems due to the non-availability of drinking water. Taps are dry. We consume contaminated water from the river and the streams,” Bashir Ahmad, a protester said.
Later, a police team reached the spot and pacified the protesters by assuring to take up the issue with the PHE department.
