KCCI listens to artisans’ woes, assures help

SRINAGAR: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday participated in an artisans’ meeting organised by Artisans Rehabilitation Forum at Miskeen Bagh, Khanyar here.
A handout issued here said the KCCI Senior Vice President, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, and its past presidents and executive committee members were invited to hear and assess the problems being faced by the artisan community.
A large gathering of artisans including young men and women attended the meeting, it said, adding that they narrated their woes regarding bank loans, repayment of loans, and insurance of their accounts.
“The artisans said that they should be allowed all the benefits on the Artisans Credit Card in the same manner as under Kissan Credit Card. They said that six branches of the J&K Bank have not insured their accounts as a result of which they have suffered losses,” it said.
The Senior Vice President, as per the handout, informed the artisan that KCCI’s President has already taken up all the related issues with J&K Bank.
“In fact, the issue related to the insurance of C/C accounts is under active consideration of the bank authorities,” he told them.
“In his recent meeting with the Chief Minister, the KCCI President pleaded for extending prioritised adequate monetary and moral support to the artisans. And the Chief Minister has assured that every effort needed for preservation and growth of our handicraft will be made on priority by the state government,” he told the artisans.
