Srinagar: Denouncing the ban on Muharram processions in Kashmir, a group of religious organisations under the banner All Jammu and Kashmir Itehadul Muslimeen staged a protest at press enclave on Friday.
The protesters expressed their displeasure with the successive regimes for not repealing the ban.
“As the situation has improved here, what is the point of continuing the ban,” protesters demanded.
The ban on the Muharram processions was imposed in 1989, by the then governor of the state, Jagmohan. The order was issued keeping in view the anti-India uprising here.
