Kashmir lawyers’ body to challenge legislation banning cow slaughter in JK

Srinagar: Kashmir High Court Bar Association Srinagar on Thursday announced to challenge legislation banning voluntarily slaughtering of cow or the like animals in the state.

“Bar Association has decided to challenge section 298A and section 298B of RPC, which provides ban on killing cow or the like animals as being unconstitutional before the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir at Srinagar,” a spokesman lawyers’ body said after its executive committee meeting convened following the high court’s order banning the sale of beef in the state.

“It has also been decided to intervene in a Public Interest Litigation  filed by Parimoksh Seth, Advocate, before the Jammu Wing of the High Court, wherein an order has been passed by the Division Bench of Court yesterday, imposing ban on slaughtering of cows in the state and the implementation of the order through police,” the spokesman added
