Jamaat says it doesn’t support elections held under “Indian constitution”

Srinagar: Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday dismissed the allegations that its cadres participated or voted in elections saying it doesn’t support elections held under the Indian constitution.

“We neither participate in elections nor did we vote in the polls. We never supported PDP or any pro-India party. We took disciplinary action against our 2 members for voting in elections,” said newly elected JEI chief Ghulam Mohammad Bhat during his maiden press conference at party headquarters here.

Bhat said that article 370 is vital for Jammu and Kashmir till the issue is resolved under UN resolutions or tripartite dialogue.

Replying to a query, he said they would oppose the ban on beef in a “democratic” way.

“Even if legislation is passed and vetted by Indian Parliament, Jamaat will never accept it,”he said.
