Geelani calls for shutdown on Saturday against beef ban

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani has called for peaceful protests on Friday and a shutdown on Saturday against the court order banning beef sale across Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued here this evening, the veteran resistance leader termed the decision as politically motivated aimed to create communal tension and riots in the Muslim majority state.

“If India boasts of being a secular country, then every person has a right to practice their religion. However, this controversial decision has taken away the freedom of Muslims only. This is interference in religious affairs,” he said.
