Pattan students protest against transporters

BARAMULLA: Hundreds of students from north Kashmir’s Pattan area on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration near Singpora on Baramulla-Srinagar highway against passenger vehicle owners for allegedly not allowing the students to board their buses.
The protesting students said that these drivers and the bus conductors misbehave and stop the students from boarding the buses .
They said that the vehicle owners charge full fare instead of half as is the provision with the travelling students.
Mohammad Anwar, a student of Degree College Pattan, said that most of the drivers don’t allow the students to board their vehicles because students pay half fares as per government rules.
“The mini bus drivers are charging full fare from us, resulting in daily clashes,” he added. The protesting students blocked the highway disrupting the traffic movement for several hours.
Later, a team of Pattan police reached the spot and pacified the students. The students, later on, marched to the office of the sub district magistrate (SDM) Pattan and presented a memorandum.
The SDM assured protesting students that she will direct all the drivers to allow the students to board buses on subsidized rates.
