SRINAGAR: The government on Friday formally announced that empty trucks would travel to Kashmir Valley via Mughal Road to keep the Jammu-Srinagar highway decongested during the peak season of transportation of fruits.
“In view of the heavy traffic movement expected during the fruit season starting from mid September, IGP Traffic J&K in a communication instructed that empty load carriers and Oil tankers shall not be allowed on…Srinagar-Jammu road,” an official handout issued here said.
“Instead, all such empty vehicles shall take the Mughal Road to decongest the NH for passengers and down convoy movement of fruit trucks,” it said. The IGP, as per the handout, said the empty load carriers travelling from Jammu to Srinagar should also be diverted towards Mughal Road from September 10.
The SSP traffic concerned has been asked to ensure compliance to the traffic plan and submit a report to the authorities after the plan comes into effect, it said. All Zonal IGPs have been urged to direct the concerned SHOs, SDPOs, and SSPs to provide necessary police assistance to traffic police for strict implementation of the plan, it added
