Srinagar: Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) has termed the ‘Revival Day’, which is being observed by the state government on September 7 to commemorate the first anniversary of last year’s floods, as “Jashn-e-Barbadi”, the “carnival of destruction”.
Chairman KTMF Mohammad Yasin Khan, who called for a shutdown on September 7, said the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state was actually (prime minister Narendra) “Modi-led government”.
“The killers of Muslims want to celebrate September 7 as Jashn-e-Barbadi. I fail to understand why the government is celebrating my devastation. Did the state help us?” said Khan.
He added that the KTMF will organise a “felicitation programme” on September 7 near Ghanta Ghar.
Khan said there was no difference between the PDP and BJP and the “puppet government” has made any effort in the past one year to rehabilitate flood victims.
“PDP is playing politics while the BJP is running anti-Muslim agenda. If Kashmir would have been like any other Hindu dominated state, they (government of India) would have adopted different parameters to rehabilitate the affected populace,” he added.
Chief Spokesperson Siraj Ahmad said that even after a year, a flood management plan is missing and the public infrastructure is in shambles.
The KTMF, which comprises dozens of traders’ organisations, also appealed parents, students and people to boycott the government Revival Day while claiming Employees Joint Action Committee led by Qayoom Wani has endorsed the KTMF’s strike call.
