SRINAGAR: Asking government not to discontinue their services, dozens of members of All Jammu and Kashmir National Youth Corps Association continued their hunger strike for the second consecutive day on Wednesday in Pratap Park Srinagar.
The members said that 6000 youth were engaged in 2010 as volunteers under the National Youth Corps (NYC) scheme in the state.
In his address, association’s state president Asif Ali Bhat said that the engagement of the youth was given a formal shape after government issued an order vide its cabinet decision number 192/CIR/2014 dated 22-10-2014 and secretary education vide number 737-EDU of 2014.
The youth were taken as contingent workers in school education department against the vacancies which were created in newly 800 upgraded schools of the state.
“It’s unfortunate that we are yet to get formal orders of engagement even after a cabinet decision and we formally demand the state government to implement it as early as possible,” said the association president.
He added that the NYC is being forced to sit on a hunger strike. “The strike will continue until we get an order in writing from the concerned authorities,” Asif said.
