SRINAGAR: Work in high court and subordinate courts here was affected on Tuesday due to a strike called by a lawyers’ body to protest against an assault on one of its senior members.
The members of Kashmir High Court Bar Association (HCBA) launched their one-day protest against a “murderous assault” on advocate Mohammad Abdullah Pandit and pressed for stern action against those responsible.
In view of the strike, most of the lawyers abstained from work in the High Court and subordinate courts at Bemina here, officials said.
The KHCBA alleged that some persons attacked Pandit while he was parking his vehicle outside the office chamber Sunday. Advocate Pandit suffered serious head injuries in the incident, they said.
An FIR was lodged against the accused at the Khanyar police station of which two have been arrested.
Some of the accused are still at large and the KHCBA has demanded a thorough probe by police into the incident.
