When Lal Chowk tea seller mistook Rahul’s team as SMC’s demolition squad

SRINAGAR: When congress vice president Rahul Gandhi stopped his cavalcade in front of Farooq Ahmad Mir’s makeshift tea kiosk near KMDA bus yard at Lal Chowk, his heart sank. That is because he mistook Rahul and his team as Srinagar Municipal Corporations’ demolition squad.

“I was sure my tea stall will be bulldozed from here as I was shocked to see so many security guards approaching. When Rahul disembarked from his car, I felt the municipal team wanted to demolish my stall in his presence,” said Mir.
It was however surprising for Mir to see the Congress vice- president greeting him while asking for a cup of tea. “I used a whole packet of milk for making four cups of tea for him and his colleagues. All I desired was that Rahul should like my tea. He had a traditional Bakhirkhani with tea and I believe he liked it,”Mir said.
Rahul later paid Mir Rs 200 and thanked him with a smile. “I am really happy to find a personality like Rahul Gandhi visiting my stall. He even shook hands with me,” he said.
Rahul, who was accompanied by Member of Parliament Ambika Sonia and state congress chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir were on way to Srinagar airport when he asked his driver to take a U-turn at JK Bank headquarters at Dalgate and move towards Lal Chowk. On reaching Jehangir chowk, he took a U-turn again and stopped near Mir’s kiosk.
