SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday expressed concern over the escalation of hostilities between India and Pakistan on border.
In a statement, Mirwaiz said that the continuous escalation of hostilities between the two countries was worrisome and dangerous to the peace in the region.
He stressed upon both the nations to resolve the Kashmir issue sooner than later.
India and Pakistan on Friday accused each other of violating the ceasefire on border in Jammu and Kashmir. While Pakistan claimed six persons were killed after firing by India on the border, India accused Pakistan of shelling the border posts killing three persons.
Expressing concern over the loss of lives at working border in Sialkot and Suchetgarh sectors , Mirwaiz stressed that people living across the borders have to suffer and bear the brunt of hostilities between the two countries.
Asserting that the attitude of India in connection with the NSA level talks has added to increase in hostilities between the two countries at the borders, Mirwaiz said that the “imprudent and unrealistic approach adopted by Indian leadership” has allowed the situation to reach to this dangerous level.
He stated that the Indian reluctance to talk on Kashmir reflects its “intransigence” towards solving the Kashmir dispute.
“India should realize that issues can’t be addressed by military means and instead such approach could lead to more violence and instability,” Mirwaiz said.
Appealing the leadership of both nations to show maturity and wisdom and de-escalate the situation at the borders, Mirwaiz said that both the nations have no option but to solve their disputes through dialogue.
He stated that both the nuclear nations have to take the Kashmiri leadership along and find a resolution which satisfies their political aspirations.
