Baramulla: At least seven more youths have joined militant ranks in north Kashmir after Hizb commander Burhan put out his new video on social media, according to the police.
A senior police official, on condition of anonymity, revealed that “After Burhan displayed his video clips and photographs on social networking sites, mostly on Facebook, at least seven more youths have joined militant ranks in north Kashmir. The youngsters, he said, were mostly from Sopore, Baramulla and Pattan areas.
Burhan has emerged as a big challenge for Indian forces, and the police have announced a reward for anyone providing information about his presence. The official also admitted that Burhan was “very clever”, even as Indian forces are trying their best to kill or capture him. Agencies like the IB and RAW were also involved in the hunt and, said the official, there is intense pressure on the police and other government forces to locate him.
“Burhan is not using his cell phone personally, but some of his friends are using his phone, and that is why we can’t locate him,” the official said.
The official added that, recently, dozens of youths have joined militant ranks in south and central Kashmir, which is a matter of concern for government forces. He said that around 250 youths are directly or indirectly involved with militants in the Kashmir Valley, of which around 54 belong to north Kashmir.
