JAMMU: Project Director AIDS control society on Wednesday denied the figures published in some newspapers regarding the prevalence of HIV in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The HIV prevalence in J&K is 0.08% and not 8% or 0.8 % as was reported. Moreover there is a difference between being HIV positive and being an AIDS patient. The 4500 cases reported in J&K are HIV positive. Not all of these become AIDS patients,” an official spokesman quoted the official as saying.
