JE says PDP minister abused him

Srinagar: A junior minister for Industries, PDD and Housing and Urban Development Mohammad Ashraf Mir along with his workers on Wednesday harassed and hurled abuses on a junior engineer, Riyaz Dar, at Dara Harwan for not macadamising a lane which leads to residences of his party workers.
According to the engineer, PDP minister Ashraf Mir visited the site around 8 pm and hurled invectives at him in front of everyone present for “creating problems” in his constituency. “Mir’s workers first approached me seeking macadamisation of their lane. I asked them to get it approved from the Chief Engineer and I would do the work instantly. Today evening, Mir along with his workers arrived on the spot and harassed and hurled abuses on me,” the engineer said.
He said he was waiting for his senior officer so as to file a complaint with the concerned police station regarding the minister’s behavior with a public servant. “Mir’s workers hurled abuses on me too,” he added.
On his part, Mir claimed the “engineer belonged to the NC and was working according to their agenda”. At the same time, he added “It is unfortunate that some officials are loose cannons.”
Currently, 1.5 km of a road has been approved for the work, but the minister and his workers were asking the engineer to macadamise more than the approved length. Mir later claimed that he had talked to the concerned minister and the ‘entire’ road would now be macadamised.
Locals of the area, however, corroborated the claims of the engineer and even protested against Mir’s behavior. The latter denied any protests took place.
