Work begins on Rs 2.45-crore pashmina storage facility in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: The government on Saturday laid foundation of the Rs 2.45-crore pashmina storage facility at Zainakote here, while stating that the New Industrial Policy-2015 will be announced soon.
An official handout issued here said the Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Prakash Ganga and his Minister of State (MoS) Mohammad Ashraf Mir laid the foundation stone of office cum storage facility of the ‘SICOP Raw Material Depot’.
“The facility will serve for storage of raw pashmina and plastic granules,” it said.
MLA Batmaloo Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Director Industries and Commerce Nazim Zai Khan, Managing Director SICOP R L Tikoo, Members of Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir, and other senior officers and representatives of the industries were present on the occasion, it said.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister, as per the statement, said the construction of the facility was industrialists’ “long pending demand” that has now been fulfilled.
The facility, he said, will be equipped with internet connectivity and other means to encourage e-commerce.
The minister directed the executing agency to speed up the work and complete the project within the stipulated time.
He said the government has already taken “several pro-industry decisions” under the ease of doing business initiative.
The new industrial policy 2015 shall also be announced soon, he said, adding the “industry-friendly atmosphere” is being created in the state for setting up of new business units.
“Various changes are being brought about in this sector and the government is making concerted efforts to make Jammu and Kashmir a model industrial state in the county,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, MoS Mir said the industrial sector “is being focussed upon” by the government for adding “value to our economy in the near future”.
The government, he said, has been working on New Industrial Policy-2015 for the benefit of the people associated with the industrial sector.
