Court issues warrant against Srinagar Swiss bank holder

SRINAGAR: A local court here has issued bailable warrant against a Swiss bank holder from Srinagar for over alleged nonpayment of income tax.
The warrant was issued Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar Masarat Shaheen after hearing a complaint file by Additional Commissioner Income Tax against one Haseeb Shah.
“ The complainant being a public servant and even the facts of the compliant and the documents which have been annexed with it, prima facie discloses the offences under section 276 CC and 77 (D) of the Income Tax Act”, the court said and directed SHO of Police station Ram Munshi Bagh to execute the warrants against Rs 50000.
According to the compliant, Shah has failed to file returns of income for the assessment year 1997-98 and the assessment was completed by the joint commissioner income tax by determining the demand payable at Rs 15, 10,600 40.
The complainant submitted that the Income Tax Department after receiving information from the office of DIT (Inv) Ludhiana in the form of master-sheet that Shah has opened the bank accounts in HSBC bank in Geneva Switzerland in February 1997, issued a notice to the accused on March 29, 2014 under relevant sections of Income Tex Act.
“The accused failed to file response and also failed to file return of Income Tex with regard to the notice within 30 days,” the complainant submitted.
