SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (G) on Tuesday condemned the registration of FIR against Dukhtaran-e-Millat chairperson, Syeda Asiya Andrabi.
Police on Monday booked Andrabi under Section 13 of Unlawful Activities Ac for hoisting Pakistan flag on the neighbouring country’s Independence Day last week.
“Registering of an FIR for hoisting Pakistan’s flag is unjustified as hoisting of Pakistani flag in Jammu & Kashmir is nothing new but a usual process,” a Hurriyat (G) spokesman said.
“It is a tradition right from 1947 and if government lifts restrictions on that day, every Kashmiri will come out with a Pakistani flag,” he added.
The spokesman said that Syeda Asiya Andrabi was “a bold woman leader”. “She has not committed any crime by waving the Pakistani flag but has represented the aspirations and sentiments of the whole nation,” the spokesman added.
He said that Kashmiris have “affection with Pakistan” and it was a normal process to hoist its flags.
“The reason behind it is that Pakistan is the only country in the world which supports the right to self determination of the Kashmiris and raises this issue on in international forums,” he added.
He said that Pakistan not only supports Kashmir on diplomatic and moral front but “the youths of that country also sacrifice their lives for the freedom of the Kashmiris”.
“Since the inception of BJP-PDP government in Jammu & Kashmir, this issue is being unnecessarily flared-up and the Indian media plays a very pro-active role in this regard.”
