MUZAFFARABAD: The Indian national flag was burnt on Saturday here at a rally staged to observe India’s independence day as “black day”. Hundreds of Kashmiri refugees took to the streets carrying black flags, banners and placards inscribed with pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. They marched to United Nations Military Observer office
from Gharipan Chowk, where they staged a protest sit-in and set the Indian flag on fire. They also handed over a protest memorandum to the UN Military Observers Group.
A refugee organisation, Pasban e Hurriyat, organised the anti-India protest. Earlier, Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani also addressed the rally via telephone from Srinagar.
