Srinagar: Groups of people are raising flags and bursting firecrackers in several parts of the Valley to celebrate Pakistan’s 69th Independence Day today.

A group of chanting pro-Pakistan and pro-Islam slogans appeared in Main Town Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district around 6:00 am today and hoisted Pakistani flags atop electricity polls and high rise buildings, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. The jubilant boys also burst firecrackers to express their joy on the country’s Independence.

“The police and army removed the flags instantly and chased away the boys. However, after sometime, the youth again hoisted the flags to celebrate the Independence of the Muslim nation,” witnesses said.

They said Pakistani flags were also hoisted Main Town Bandipora before the government forces brought it down.

Reports of hoisting Pakistani flags have also been received from various parts of south Kashmir’s Anantnag, Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama districts.
