After Allah, Pakistan only supporter of Kashmir: Geelani

SRINAGAR: Veteran Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday greeted Pakistan on its Independence Day saying after God, Pakistan was the only visible support to people of Kashmir.
In a statement, the Hurriyat (G) chairman said that the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was the “center of the wishes and feelings of the oppressed Kashmiri people.”
“After Almighty Allah, Pakistan is the only visible support which, every time, highlights our miseries and supports our freedom movement on national and international forums,” Geelani said.
While extending greetings to the people, army and leadership of Pakistan, Geelani appealed Kashmiri people and Imams of Masjids to organize special prayers for the stability, prosperity and peace of the country.
He said that Pakistan was the only country in the whole world which openly supports the right to self determination for the people of Kashmir and “supports our freedom struggle on political, diplomatic and moral levels.”
The 85-year-old said that the existence of Pakistan has proven to be a ‘great blessing’ for the Muslims of the entire world especially for the Muslims residing in this south Asian region.
“Its creation has played a vital role in the recognition of the existence of a community which was known as minorities in the sub-continent,” he said.
While commenting over the status of the Muslims living in India, the Hurriyat (G) chairman said that even after 68 years, the “communal minded people of India are yet to accept the existence of those Muslims who remained in the country and they are still looked with suspect eyes in this country.”
“According to the government constituted Justice Sachar Committee report, the Muslims are continuously being pushed backward in every sphere of life and they are being treated as second class citizens in India. Their everything, such as their life, property, honour, dignity and even their religious identity are not safe at the hands of the fanatic and communal forces,” Geelani said.
He said that without formation of Pakistan, the condition of the Muslims of the sub-continent would have been same as in India and “they would have to live on the mercy of the fascist forces.”
While extending his greetings especially to the Pakistan Army, Geelani said that they not only have to protect the geographical borders of Pakistan but the protection of the ideological boundaries of the country was also their duty.
“Pakistan was created in the name of Islam and Islam only can guaranty peace, prosperity, stability and security to this country and the Pakistan army can play an important role in its establishment,” he said.
Geelani has called for a shutdown onAugust 15, the day India celebrates its 69th Independence Day saying “it doesn’t have any moral and constitutional right to organise the freedom celebrations on the soil of this state.”
