Pulwama: Amid a complete shutdown, thousands of people today participated in the funeral of a civilian, who was shot dead by the BSF troopers at Padgampora here.

All shops, educational institutions, business establishments remained closed in Main Town, Tral, Awantipora, Kakpora, Pampore and other areas due to a shutdown called by Hurriyat Conference (G) against the killing of Bilal Ahmad Bhat by BSF troopers at Padgampora on last evening, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. The movement of traffic was also affected by the shutdown.

Bilal was critically injured after troopers fired at a procession of unarmed mourners who were demonstrating against the killing of the militants, in Malangpora (Awantipora) on Tuesday evening. He was taken to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Meanwhile, thousands of people assembled at Padgampora, the native village of the slain civilian to attend his funeral prayers. Witnesses said that several pro-freedom leaders, who attended the funeral asked the people to “safeguard the sacrifices” rendered by Kashmiris in the ongoing freedom struggle.

“Amidst vociferous pro-freedom and anti-India sloganeering, Bilal was laid to rest at the martyrs’ graveyard,” witnesses said.
