Rs 1 crore awarded to 500 candidates as scholarship since 2002: JKYF

SRINAGAR: J&K Yateem Foundation on Monday said that it has awarded over 500 scholarships involving an expenditure of rupees one crore since 2002 under its annual Higher Education Scholarship Programme(HESP).
In a statement, the foundation said that it held its 13thHESP entrance examination to select candidates for awarding scholarships to the meritorious candidates for the year 2015.
“264 candidates including 100 girls from all the districts of Kashmir and Doda and Kishtwar districts in Jammu, having qualified class 10th exam appeared in the examination conducted at Government Boys(old) Higher Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar Srinagar,” the statement said.
“The result of written test will be announced on August 25, 2015 which shall be published in leading newspapers. The final selection list shall be issued on September 30, 2015 which shall be made public in leading newspapers,” the statement added.
The foundation said that they were paying a scholarship amount of Rs 6000/ per annum in two installments. “Since 2002, 500 scholarships have been awarded which includes sizeable number of girl students till March 2015 involving an expenditure of approximately 01 Crore expended under this programme,” the foundation said in the statement.
During financial year 2014-15, an amount of Rs 15 lac has been spent under this programme. In Jammu Division, in first of its kind 23 candidates including 07 girls and 11 Non-Muslim candidates were selected for the award of HESP scholarships, the statement informed.
“Under HESP Professional programme started in 2004, an amount of Rs 12 lac has been spent from 2004 till 2014. Currently, 18 professional students are on rolls under this programme,” the statement said.
