Youth arrested in Tral over rifle snatching


PULWAMA: A youth was arrested by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of police on Friday when he allegedly tried to hold the rifle of a cop on the “apprehension that he may be shot.”
Police, however, said that he snatched the rifle of the cop and tried to shoot.
Fayaz Ahmad Lone, a Sumo driver who travels on Tral-Awantipora route, was stopped at Bus Stand Tral by SOG men.
Family members of Lone said that the policemen asked him to furnish the documents of the vehicle. “There was an altercation between him and the cops. At one point of time he feared that the policemen may shoot him and he tried to hold the rifle of the cop. He was arrested by police over the issue,” said uncle of driver, Ghulam Nabi Lone.
Police on the other hand said that they have arrested a youth who, along with another person, snatched the rifle of a SOG personal.
They said other person managed to escape from the spot.
A senior police official said that the arrested person snatched the rifle from the cop and tried to fire. “Fortunately, the gun was locked,” he said.
