Protests in Kulgam after “army vehicle” mows down civilian

Anantnag: An army vehicle has allegedly run over a man in the neighboring Kulgam district of south Kashmir triggering protests by the locals.

35-year- old Ghulam Rasool Thoker, son of Ghulam Mohammad was returning home after offering Fajr prayers this morning when an army vehicle allegedly hit him at Balsoo village in Yaripora along the Shopian-Anantnag road, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. While the army vehicle fled from the scene fearing backlash, the locals removed critically injured Thoker to the district hospital Anantnag for treatment.

“The doctors at the hospital referred him to Srinagar for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way,” witnesses said.

When Thoker’s body was brought to his native village Balsoo, hundreds of people hit the roads and staged demonstrations. Chanting slogans, the protesters blocked the Shopian-Anantnag road demanding identification and arrest of the accused driver.
