SRINAGAR: A three-day job fair for the youths trained in the state’s various institutes for technical education began here Wednesday.
An official handout issued here said the department of Technical Education organised the event—‘Job Mela-2015-Huge Opportunities Prosperous Employment (HOPE)’—for the skilled youth who have got training in various trades from different polytechnic institutions and ITIs.
The event is meant to provide placement opportunities to the youth in various companies and industries based outside the state, it said.
It was inaugurated by the Director Technical Education, Showkat Ahmad Zargar, at the venue Government Industrial Training Institute Bemina.
“A large number of polytechnic diploma holders and ITI candidates participated in the event,” the handout said.
Speaking on the occasion, the director said, “The event will serve as a platform in terms of job, employment opportunities for the skilled, unemployed youth of the state”.
He said the main objective the fair “is to make the unemployed youth aware about the importance of vocational trainings in their day-to-day living and to encourage them towards private sector”.
All ITI certificate holders as well as polytechnic diploma holders of the state are eligible to register themselves for the fair, he said.
As per the handout, about 45 to 50 companies from parts of India are participating in the event. These include M/s Fil Industries Ltd, Archina Cold Storage Pvt Ltd, I Fresh, Kehwa Group, Alba Power Ltd, Pure Weave, City Constructions, Himalyan Steel Industries, Comfort Polymare, Alba Electrical, Bharti Airtel, Micro Turners, Engineers Auto, TCI Cements, Dr IT Group, and Basic Group of Industries.
Zargar said the department approached the organisations for participation.
“Necessary counselling is expected to be provided to at least 2,000 polytechnic diploma holders and ITI-trained unemployed youth. After that, a shortlist of about 600 to 700 youth shall be prepared,” he said.
