4 injured in Handwara after army vehicle hits auto rickshaw

Baramulla: Violent protests have erupted in Langate town of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district after an army vehicle hit an auto rickshaw injuring four people, one among them critically.

An auto rickshaw (JK09A-0138) was hit by a speedy army vehicle in Langate town along the Baramulla-Kupwara highway around 9:30 am today causing injuries to at least four people, including a student, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. The injured identified as Abdul Gani Dar, Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, Shakir Ahmad, a metric student and Mujahid-ul-Islam, a non-local were removed to the hospital by the locals. The condition of the student, witnesses said was serious.

The accident triggered strong anti-army protests by the locals in the area. Chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the protesters blocked the highway and clashed with the police, witnesses said.The pitched battles were going on when the last reports came in.
