AIIMS row: Protests, stone pelting mark day 4 of Jammu bandh

Jammu: Amid a strike on fourth consecutive day on Monday, police arrested several members of AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) besides some lawyers and senior Congress leader SS Shingari.
The arrests triggered stone-pelting in Jewel Chowk areas which was followed by a mild cane charge by police.
For the fourth consecutive day, many areas of Jammu observed a shutdown called by ACC pressing for the establishment of a full-fledged premier health institution in the Jammu region.
The bandh also witnessed some stray incidents of violence in parts of old Jammu and the consequent action of police as protesters led by various political parties defied Section 144 and took out protest rallies.
Normal life remained paralysed owing to the strike as no passenger vehicles plied on the roads. Business establishments, market places and shops too mostly remained closed in view of the 72-hour ACC bandh call.
Vaishno Devi and Amarnath pilgrims and tourists faced lot of inconvenience due to the strike.
Meanwhile BJP leaders and activists led by Jammu-East MLA Rajesh Gupta and senior leader Yaduvir Sethi asked shopkeepers in Purani Mandi, Raj Tilak Road, City Chowk and other adjoining markets to open their shops and business establishments. But, the shopkeepers refused to open their shops asking the BJP members to ensure safety of their property.
