Police says checkpoint attacker found dead

Baramulla: Police said on Monday that it has recovered the body of one of the two militants, who had attacked a check point in Mirgund area of Pattan on Friday last injuring four, including a senior police officer and two cops.

“We have recovered the body of a militant from the river. He was one of the two militants, who attacked our men at a check point at Mirgund last week,” Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, north Kashmir, Gareeb Das told Kashmir Reader.

He said that some arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the deceased militant, who had drowned in the river to evade arrest by the police following the attack.

Dispelling speculations that the slain was the expelled Hizbul Mujahideen militant Abdul Qayoom Najar, who is believed to be behind the series of attack on mobile communication facilities, Das said that police was trying its best to ascertain the identity of the slain militant.
