Baramulla: Scores of shopkeepers, mostly chemists, on Saturday staged a protest demonstration urging the government to immediately renovate the Old Baramulla Hospital building, which was gutted in fire on July 31.
The protesting shopkeepers blocked the Srinagar-Baramulla highway for almost an hour and asked the authorities to takadress their grievances.
The shopkeepers said that damage to the building has hit their only source of income.
General secretary of Traders Federation Baramulla, Er Tariq Mugloo said that the shifting of district hospital to Kantabagh in the past came as a major blow to the wherewithal of these shopkeepers. “After a lot of efforts government finally said that it will set a Mother and Child care hospital at the venue,” he said.
“Rs 2 crore were also released for the purpose but the fire has dashed the hopes of these shopkeepers,” he added.
He said that the government should immediately renovate the building.
