PAMPORE: Khrew residents Friday evening called off their weeklong strike against the rising pollution caused by cement factories in the area, after the intervention of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Asgar Samoon.
Samoon gave one month time to the factory owners for installingproper dust controlling devices in their factories. The decision was taken in a high level meeting in Div Com Office in Srinagar attended by Islamia Auqaf Committee and civil societies members Khrew.
“Our strike has borne fruit as Div Com has given a written assurance that the factory owners would install the devices or they would be taken to task,” said Shiekh Abdul Rehman, chairman of Islamia Auqaf Committee. The residents also thanked Div Com for his timely intervention and taking into consideration the suffering of the locals. The residents had been on indefinite strike since Saturday last.
