Troops fire shots after mistaking crackers for a blast in south Kashmir’s Kulgam

Srinagar: CPRF troopers opened several shots in air after mistaking fire crackers for a grenade blast in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, a senior police officer said Thursday

Superintendent of Police, Kulgam Mumtaz Ahmad said that around 10:15 pm on Wednesday a trooper posted on night duty at a CRPF camp at Amnoo village near the new district hospital, heard a sound, probably of a cracker, which he mistook for a grenade.

“The trooper fired shots in air. His colleagues through fired several rounds,” Ahmad said.

The firing triggered panic in the village prompting army, SOG and CRPF to launched searches in the area. (GNS)
