PAMPORE: The protest against the ce¬ment industries in Pampore’s Khrew area in Pulwama district of south Kashmir con¬tinued for the third consecu¬tive day Monday.
The protesters have been blaming the managements of the in¬dustries of operating without pollution checking devices, causing pollution in the area. They alleged that the factory owners have been ignoring their woes.
“Our houses are full of dust. Many people have suffered from pulmonary diseases. Yet, the factory owners continue to violate the pollution control norms,” Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, a member of Islamia Auqaf Committee Khrew, told Kashmir Reader.
Chairman of the Committee, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, said they would con¬tinue the protest till July 29.
“We had a meeting with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama. He has assured us that he would against the problem and asked us to meet him on July 30. We will continue the protest till then,” he said.
The DC, Neeraj Kumar, told Kashmir Reader that he met the representatives of the Committee and convinced them to call off the protest.
